Community Outreach

Every business organization has an obligation to give back to the community. At the Waterford Companies, we believe that it is important to not only give donations but also to give of our time and expertise in order to make a difference. The principals of our companies have been actively involved in a number of local and national organizations.

Richard Houlding has served as the Chairman of the Board of the Parmenter Health Center and Wayside Hospice in Wayland, MA. He also has been a member of the Board of Directors of The Hillside School in Marlboro, MA. Hillside is a middle school for boys with ADHD.

Robert Shapiro is the acting 1st Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Central New England Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. He has turned his passion for cycling to benefit the NMSS with the creation of TEAM WATERFORD. Our cycling Team has ridden for the last 11 years in the 180 mile MS Cape Cod Getaway and has been part of organized rides to benefit MS in Switzerland, France, Spain and Italy. In 2009 we had 14 riders for the Cape Cod Ride and raised in excess of $25,000 for the event. Over 85% of the dollars raised fund MS Research and programs for those who are afflicted with this devastating disease.

J Murph Yule is a member of the UNH Pathways Mentorship Program of the Whittemore School of Business and Economics in Durham, NH. JMY provides mentor Services to a number of undergraduate and Graduate Students and Foreign Students regarding economics, economic development and real estate initiatives.

* Urban Land Institute, Washington, DC, NYC, NY, Boston, MA- UrbanPlan- JMY volunteers to be a mentor and facilitator for a National UrbanPlan Program providing planning, zoning, real estate and financial consulting services to high school seniors and undergraduate students who have a keen interest in urban planning and development.

* Phillips Academy, Andover, MA- JMY has served on the Phillips Academy Alumni Council and Alumni Board providing Scholarship and Admissions Services to a number of economically disadvantaged families from many states in the USA and other countries. JMY serves as a Mentor for a number of the scholarship students attending Phillips Academy, both the full time academic program as well as Andover Summer School.

* Epiphany School, Dorchester, MA- An Independent tuition free middle school for children of economically disadvantaged families from Boston Neighborhoods- JMY has made substantial financial contributions and has served on many fundraising committees which focuses on a financially sustainable of the non profit school.
